How Lace Front Wigs Improve Your Look

By Lilia Auerbach

If you do not know what a lace front wig is, they really are not difficult to understand or apply. Lace front wigs are just like other wigs except they have lace attached at the front so hair can be pulled through to make the wig appear more natural. If you want to use a wig but do not want bangs, a lace front wig may be what you need. They are not perfect, though, so you may need to use cosmetics to cover the line in front.

Lace front wigs are used by celebrities who are on camera or who perform on stage in front of audiences where they are not face-to-face with those who see them. Musicians, singers, actors and models all use lace front wigs when they want a different style without doing something to their actual hair.

The cost of a lace front wig will set you back 2,000 to 6,000 dollars, depending on the quality of the hair that is used. Lace front wigs can be applied on your own and it only takes a little bit of imagination to cover the front if you feel that is what you need to do.

With just a couple of practice runs, you will be able to attach your wig without a problem and it will not take much time to get your hairstyle finished.

2 Methods for Attaching Wigs with Lace Fronts

1. Use liquid adhesive (the type that is safe for human use) - Put the front lace back by an inch or so, and then apply the adhesive so that it disappears into the front of the lace. Place the wig over this and it should appear as though the hair is naturally growing out from your scalp.

2. Attach the wig with double-sided tape- This is much more complicated than using liquid adhesive. Cut strips of tape into three-inch lengths. Make sure they are between 3 1/2 to 4 inches wide. Starting on one side of your head, take one of the strips and put it on the polyurethaned spot where the front lace is attached. Press the tape down firmly. Continue to lay each strip of tape down, with each end touching the next until you have completely covered the entire hairline. Attach the last strip to the polyurethaned area on the opposite side from where you started. Be sure there are no gaps between the strips of tape before you pull the wig over the line.

Applying the lace front wig with adhesive or tape makes it possible to style the hair without constantly having to move it back to its original position and the adhesive helps the wig to lie flat, making it appear much more like your real hair.

When you are "up close and personal" with someone, they will be able to tell you have a wig on if they look closely. Try blending some foundation into the front line of the wig to camouflage or put on a cloth headband that covers your hairline. If you are wearing it in the daytime hours, makeup is not suggested as it will be much more obvious.
