Understanding Designer Sunglasses

By Terry Petrov

As far as fashion is concerned, designer sunglasses are hot. Many celebrities like Paris Hilton or the Olsen twins can be seen in Hollywood, day or night, wearing the latest designer sunglasses. When on the red carpet, these celebrities are frequently asked, what are you wearing, then they lower their sunglasses down to their nose and peer over the rims to mention designer names such as Vera Wang, Dior, Valentino, Gucci and Serengeti.

Stars like Donald Trump and Britney Spears have their own name brand sunglasses on the market while others may be wearing Marc Jacobs or Armani sunglasses for a classy look or Baby Phat for punk style. The mood for the day might be for the retro 1950's look of Fossil sunglasses.

It may happen that your favourite clothing designer will be the designer of the sunglasses with which you choose to accessorize your brand name clothing. For example, if you are a smart Tommy dresser you could add to the look of a Tommy Hilfiger clothing ensemble with some Tommy Hilfiger sunglasses. If casual wear is what you are after then Kate Spade should be your choice. For a sportier look, Carrera is the most famous brand. But if you are interested in creating a sensual mood then Valentino frames that have smooth round edges and Swarovsky crystals might just give you, or whoever is looking at you, the mood that you are after.

If you can afford a trendy cool-looking, brand name or designer pair of sunglasses, they can be a status symbol, showing everyone that you have the cash (or credit card) to purchase them. The truth is however that if you want to be fashionable in sunglasses, quality is not something that needs to be given up. And dont forget that even though sunglasses are seen as fashionable accessories they are very important because they protect your eyes from the damage caused by the suns ultra-violet rays. Keep in mind as well that designer prescription sunglasses can reduce eyestrain and improve vision just like ordinary glasses.

Quality designer sunglasses can be polarized to reduce the glare of the sunlight reflecting off surfaces like the highway, cars, water or snow. Polarized sunglasses work by blocking off the horizontal light reflections and only let in vertical light reflections. The polarization of designer sunglasses makes them fashionable in other areas of lifestyle like golfing, boating, biking, swimming, fishing and aircraft flying.

Children who enjoy the same hot styles and brand names as their parents and their idols are the main target of the marketers of designer sunglasses. Childrens sunglasses are common to have Disney and cartoon characters on them in many colours and shapes. Polarization of childrens sunglasses is as common as adult sunglasses in order to protect their eyes from harmful UV radiation. Due to the delicate nature of the childrens eyes, sunglasses should be incorporated in their everyday life to prevent their eyes from any long term damage to their retinas.
